2 Transmission Digest J e e p   4 2 R L E Preliminary Information 2003-Current Jeep Liberty with 3.7-liter V-6 Engine 2003-Current Jeep Wrangler with 3.7-liter V-6 Engine B eginning at the start of pro- duction for the 2003 model year, Chrysler modified the 42LE (606) transmission and turned it into a rear-wheel-drive unit called the 42RLE. The majority of the transmis- sion’s internal parts and operating strategy are virtually identical to those of the 42LE with the excep- tion of the rear-drive section and the hypoid-style final drive being eliminated. This transmission is available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations.
